Sharon O'Connell graduated from Bridgewater College with a Bachelor of Science in Education and minors in English and History. She began her teaching career in the public school system in 1983 where she taught elementary, middle, and high school students. She served on two steering committees for accreditation and textbook adoption and was a representative to the National Educators Association. From 1995 to 2000, Sharon designed and ran her own dance and music studio, The Fredericksburg School of the Performing Arts. Graduates from that studio have gone on to professional careers in the Houston Ballet, Ft.Worth Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Many students continued to pursue an education in the field of dance at various colleges and universities around the country. Sharon returned to the classroom in 2000, as an elementary and middle school teacher at Fredericksburg Academy, an independent, private school in Virginia. While there she served as lead teacher, helped develop curriculum mapping for her school, and served on the steering committee for accreditation. She has continued her education and Master's preparation through the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Brigham Young University. Sharon is married to her husband of 22 years, Sean, and has 2 children, Kelly and Chase. Chase is currently a high school student at the Kirov. Having served as the middle school specialist for KAB, Sharon is excited to continue to support the school's mission as Director of Academics.
