A Message from the Executive Director

Please allow me to introduce you to a truly unique concept in the world of performing arts education. The Kirov Academy was originally envisioned as a place where serious ballet students would be afforded a complete supportive environment to achieve their professional dance career goals. Our founding President, Dr. Bo Hi Pak and our founding Artistic Director, Mr. Oleg Vinogradov met and agreed on the importance of preserving the Vaganova style of ballet training. After showing President George H.W. Bush the significance of this quest, the President wrote a letter inviting Mr. Vinogradov to come to Washington and establish the Kirov Academy of Ballet. From its very inception KAB's mission has been crystal clear. We are determined to provide the best classical, Vaganova, Kirov style ballet training to the most talented ballet students seeking professional company careers. Our close relationship with the Mariinsky Theater of St. Petersburg, Russia, through Valery Gergiev, Maestro and General Manager, helps to insure the integrity of our artistic program. As a former Kirov Principal dancer, our Artistic Director, Marat Daukayev carries on that same legacy. The rich creative environment of the Academy has spawned artistic and academic excellence. This is demonstrated by numerous gold medals and other awards, a strong academic program and the good character our students display. Our staff and our students believe in working efficiently as a team and having fun like a family.
